Revivals: How to Promote Them

Edited by Rev. Walter P. Doe. First issued by E. B. Treat, New York, 1884; enlarged 1895. This edition is abridged from the 1895 text and newly typeset.

Doe gathered working advice from men then known for conversions: Charles G. Finney, C. H. Spurgeon, Albert Barnes, Edwards A. Park, John A. Broadus, T. L. Cuyler, D. L. Moody, and others. It is a symposium, not a single system. Finney’s moral view of regeneration sits beside older evangelical counsel on law, conscience, and the care of inquirers.

The complete 1895 book is 495 pages and repeats itself. Our edition keeps the strongest chapters, drops near-duplicate magazine pieces, and leaves Finney’s argument intact where he is kept. Cuts are marked in the table of contents.
